Baptistry FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: How soon might I receive our Portable Baptismal Pool?

A: Orders are generally shipped within 24 to 48 hrs. Direct from our facility, by LTL Freight Truck. The smaller Portable Baptistry Jr ships by FedEx. Allow about 7-14 business days in transit for delivery.

Q: How long does it take to set up?

A: One person can set up the Portable Baptistry in about 20 minutes, with no costly construction and without the need of contractors.

Q: What is it made of?

A: The Baptistry is constructed of sturdy, yet lightweight, molded plastic sections, covered with a thick, durable vinyl Liner.

Q: Can it be transported?

A: The full-size, sectional baptismal can be transported easily in the back of a mini-van or truck with room to spare, or a larger SUV. The small baptismal can even be transported in the back seat or trunk of a small car.

Q: How much space do we need to set it up?

A: A minimum area of approx. 7 ft. in diameter will be necessary for set up of the full-size, Baptistry. The smaller Portable Baptistry Jr requires a 5 ft. diameter area.

Q: How easy is it to enter the Portable Baptistry?

A: From the Entry Steps outside, stepping over to the Step on the inside is a height of 22 in. - designed for easy entry by the usual candidate. On the occasion that a physically challenged individual is the candidate for baptism, an extra usher's assistance will generally suffice.

Q: How many people does it hold?

A: The full-size Portable Baptistry elegantly accommodates up to 3 people. The small Baptistry accommodates 1 to 2 people.

Q: Can I Baptize from the outside of the Portable Baptistry?

A: Though it is possible for the pastor to perform baptism from the outside of the full-size Baptistry, it was designed for standing, full-immersion baptism which generally means that the pastor should be in the Baptistry for leverage in bringing the candidate back up. The small Baptistry is for seated full-immersion, and thus designed for the pastor to be on the outside or inside.

Q: How much water does it hold?

A: The full size Baptistry holds approx. 450 gallons. The Portable Baptistry Jr holds approx. 150 gallons.

Q: How does it fill, and how long does it take?

A: The full size pool fills from a garden hose in approx. 60 minutes. The Portable Baptistry Jr fills in approx. 20 minutes.

Q: How does it drain?

A: All Portable Baptistry packages include a Submersible Drain Pump that conveniently and automatically empties the Baptistry on a 110v outlet in 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the Portable Baptistry model and pump size, without any fussy, unreliable drain fittings. (See Pump model performance details in the Dimension & Specs Section.)

Q: How much does it weigh when full of water?

A:The full-size Portable Baptistry weighs approx. 3,900 lbs. when full. The small baptismal weighs approx. 1,250 lbs. when full.

Q: Will it leak?

A: The Portable Baptistry is a sectional structure covered with a thick, watertight Liner that is leak tested, durable and designed for years of service. If the Liner is mishandled and a hole occurs it is generally easily patchable, and a patch can last the life of the Liner. We offer an easy do-it-yourself Patch Kit from PortableBaptistry.com. Should it be damaged beyond repair, a replacement Liner is readily available PortableBaptisstry.com for a fraction of the cost of the Baptistry. Call 1-800-931-2226 for info.

Q: How do we protect our floor and pulpit from getting all wet?

A: Water displacement varies among users and pastors’ immersion technique. If escess water is a big concern as with newer facilities or on carpeting, the optional Portable Baptistry Splash Guard stops the potential for wave backsplash, and the Portable Baptistry Splash Pad protects the floor where wet candidates exit the Baptistry and are together highly and effective at containment.

Q: How much space do we need to store it?

A: To save space when not in use, the full size Baptistry compactly stores away in 3 ft. x 4 ft. area stacked up 6 ft. 6 in. The Portable Baptistry Jr compactly packs away in a 20 in. cardboard box.

Q: Can I leave it set up all the time?

A: Yes, some churches leave the Portable Baptistry up all the time, and you can too. It is recommended though that you drain the Baptistry after each use, and fill with fresh water prior to the next baptism service, unless you use the water Sanitizer Kit.

Q: How long should it last?

A: We look at the purchase of a Portable Baptistry as a long term investment. Therefore, both Portable Baptistries are designed to serve you for many years under normal use. Also, in the event of any misuse in the future, the sectional/modular nature of their design allows for components to be serviced or replaced separately, rarely ever having to replace the entire Baptistry.

Q: Is there a Warranty?

A: Yes, first there is the traditional One Year Limited Warranty on all Portable Baptistry components and accessories. Second, the Portable Baptistry Liner has a 10 Year Limited Warranty on the seams and construction.
